NLC Tackles Bhara Kahu Bypass Project

ISLAMABAD: The National Logistics Cell (NLC) came in as the lowest bidder when the Capital Development Authority (CDA) opened financial bids on Monday for the contract of the Bhara Kahu bypass project, which is a top priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Only government-owned construction companies were invited to submit proposals, therefore the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and NLC took part in the process.

According to sources, the NLC offered Rs6.5 billion while FWO filed a bid for Rs7.3 billion. The NLC will therefore receive work orders soon because it submitted the lowest bid.

The prime minister will carry the ceremonial inauguration of the project out upon his return from the United States, according to CDA officials, who also stated that the NLC was likely to mobilize its machinery in a few days. Four months would pass before the job was finished.

Project to be completed in four months as per PM’s directive, says

CDA Chairman.

PM Shahzab Sharif

Last month, the Prime Minister directed the CDA to construct the project as soon as possible and complete it within four months. The five-kilometer-long road (including a one-kilometer flyover) starts from Murree Road at the Quaid-i-Azam University stop and ends at Murree Road at Jugi Bus Stand next to Punjab Cash and Carry from where it has one. -km long flyover that ends in front of Bhara Kahu Bazar towards Murree.

Earlier, CDA had planned a 7.8-kilometer route to completely traverse the entire Bhara Kahu and Kot Hatyal. However, the project took nearly two years to complete. Therefore, CDA shelved it and instead decided to take up the five-kilometer road and flood project.

A few weeks ago, the CDA Development Working Group (DWP) approved the PC-I for around Rs 7 billion, but on Monday, when the bids were opened, the civic agency received a bid of Rs 6.5 billion against an estimated cost of Rs 7 billion.

Once completed, the project will provide immense relief to people traveling to Murree and Kashmir as the existing Murree Road in Bhara Kahu faces traffic jams, especially on weekends. The engineering wing of the CDA is optimistic that they will complete the project within the stipulated time.

Speaking to Dawn CDA Chairman Capt (retired) Mohammad Usman showed that economic bids were opened for the pass assignment.

He stated he had directed the engineering wing to get the assignment begun out immediately, including that it’d be finished within 4 months.

Recently, in his first interplay with media persons, the CDA chief, in reaction to a question, had stated the undertaking changed into viable in 4 months` time. He had stated the CDA might try and get it finished even earlier than the deadline.

The Bhara Kahu skip undertaking changed into the principle venture given through Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the CDA chairman. This undertaking will be the first mega improvement undertaking that changed into being released through the incumbent government.

Other ongoing road projects were initiated by the previous government. Some of them like the Rawal Dam and 7th Avenue interchange projects are nearing completion, while the ongoing Margalla Road (from GT Road to D-12) is expected to be completed by December this year.
